I have been babysitting a 2-year-old recently and have been pretty alarmed to learn how much we have in common. A list:
- Quiet around new people (but NOT quiet around not-new people)
- Encyclopedic knowledge of car manufacturers
- Summer fashion sense (i.e. knit dresses in “fun” print with bike shorts underneath)
- General disdain for pants
- Dislike of avocado (well, in my case it’s an allergy, but I really don’t enjoy the experience of allergic reactions so I feel like it still counts)
- Correlation of desire to paint and actual painting skill
- Fascination with play food
- Enjoyment of (real) pizza
- Desire to have a younger brother (I win though, since I actually *have* one)
- Inability to sleep
- Enthusiasm for books, especially Madeline
- Love of television (don’t worry, she only gets 25 minutes a day)
- Frequent cravings for chocolate (she beats me here; it has been nearly 30 years since anyone gifted me chocolate every time I used the bathroom) (I assume)
- Preference for tables/the floor over chairs as places to sit
- Excitement about baths, especially those with bubbles
- Obsession with grocery shopping
- Stubborn and ultimately unhelpful tendency towards completing tasks without assistance from others
- General lack of hand-eye coordination in relation to ball sports
- Dance skills
Where we differ:
- Affinity for orange popsicles (hers; gross)
- Ability to reach things on shelves of medium height (mine)
- Freedom to procure as much chocolate as I want (also mine)
- Never has to do laundry or vacuum (her)
